From the NLR Police Department:

The most popular items taken in burglaries these days are large screen televisions, electronic games and laptop computers. It is very important that you record serial numbers to any item that has one, especially the noted items and any weapons you may have in the house. Doing this will greatly help should the police department come across your stolen item. If an item is taken and we have the serial number, we enter it into the Arkansas Criminal Information Center (ACIC). If the serial number of that stolen item is run through ACIC by a police officer we will know that it is stolen should we come across it. So please take the time to record all items that you possess that have serial numbers. This will be of great benefit to you and the police.

NLR citizens be aware of possible census scams. Workers WILL NOT ask for your SSN, money, harass you, or email you.

The NLRPD is advising all citizens to be aware of a possible census scam and to protect their personal information. It is important to remember that there are distinct differences between a real census worker and an identity thief trying to fraudulently obtain your personal information. US Census workers will have identification but sometimes identification cards can be fabricated… So, it is VERY important to remember what Census workers will NOT do.

Census Workers WILL NOT
1. ask for your social security number of ANY type of financial information
2. ask for money or say that you owe money
3. harass or intimidate you
4. contact you by email.

By remembering these simple guidelines the citizens of NLR will be able to protect themselves from anyone looking to target unsuspecting victims.

Yesterday my family and I observed a man on a bike circling through my neighbors carport, stopping and looking around and then riding off up the hill towards Scenic. We live on Martin Ln. The neighbor was robbed a few months ago and is an elderly lady. We called the police and they checked her house to make sure everything was ok, but thought everyone should be aware. This was during the day, bout 5:00pm and they weren’t your regular bike rider. Heavy set person, white.

Thanks Penny. Let’s all remember to keep our eyes out for our neighbors, and report anything suspicious to the police.

The North Little Rock Police Department has started using an online service called Nixle to provide public information and alerts about crime and traffic. If you use Twitter or Facebook, this service is somewhat similar to those, except it is designed for cities and agencies to provide information that is applicable to your neighborhood (NLRPD is also on Twitter, follow at @NLRPD). Crime alerts can be issued directly to your email or cell phone. For example, when the Sherwood manhunt moved over into the Lakewood area, an alert was sent out.

I would highly advise registering with the site and signing up for notifications from the NLRPD to your cell phone (look under Settings after you’ve registered).
