Volunteer Watering Schedule

At our last meeting, we discussed sharing the responsibilities for watering our beautiful areas located just as you come up Avalon and the J.D. Ashley area. If we could share the responsibilities, we could keep our hill looking beautiful and healthy. Each area has a watering box with hose inside, so it is a matter of stopping to water during the week a couple of times or daily when there is no rain or when it’s really hot during June, July, August and September. If you would, please volunteer for one week (or more if you like) so that we could all share in the responsibilities of keeping our neighborhood beautiful.

To volunteer for a week call Lisa Smith at 375-8500. If you realize that something has come up and you can’t water the week you are have volunteered for, then please let me know and we’ll try to find someone to switch with you.

Meet the State Legislature Candidates Forum

From Scott Miller (Argenta Neighborhood Boosters):

On Thursday, May 6th the Argenta Neighborhood Boosters will host a
candidate forum for the State House District 39 race and State Senate
District 34 races. This forum is open to the public and you and your
neighborhood residents are all invited. The candidates will make their
opening statements with most of the meeting time dedicated to taking
questions from the audience. This will be the ONLY candidate forum
focused exclusively on these two races.

These districts cover about 1/3 of NLR and parts of Wards 1, 2 & 3
including the following neighborhoods :Scenic Hill, Baring Cross, HOLT,
Mid-Cities, Dark Hollow, Sherman Park, Argenta, East Washington, Dixie,
Rose City, Glenview, Meadowpark, Poe, McAlmont. In past years these
elected representatives have directed thousands of dollars to our City
and organizations like the CDC’s and Boys & Girls Clubs. Since neither
of these races have Republican opposition, the winners of the May 18th
primary will be our elected representatives in the State Legislature.

I have attached a flyer for this forum, which you can send out to your
membership or other interested parties. The forum will be held at the
1st Presbyterian Church on the corner of 4th Street and Maple Street
downtown from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm next Thursday May 6th.

Protect Yourself from Census Scams

From the NLRPD:

NLR citizens be aware of possible census scams. Workers WILL NOT ask for your SSN, money, harass you, or email you.

The NLRPD is advising all citizens to be aware of a possible census scam and to protect their personal information. It is important to remember that there are distinct differences between a real census worker and an identity thief trying to fraudulently obtain your personal information. US Census workers will have identification but sometimes identification cards can be fabricated… So, it is VERY important to remember what Census workers will NOT do.

Census Workers WILL NOT
1. ask for your social security number of ANY type of financial information
2. ask for money or say that you owe money
3. harass or intimidate you
4. contact you by email.

By remembering these simple guidelines the citizens of NLR will be able to protect themselves from anyone looking to target unsuspecting victims.

Lost Dog

One of our neighbors lost a small, white Bichon Frise (looks somewhat like a poodle) today on Longview. Her name is Phoebe. If anyone has any information please let us know (leave a comment here or send an email to luke.minkner [at] scenichill.us and I’ll get you the owner’s information).

Disaster Assistance Information

Governor Beebe made a disaster declaration opening the state IA program on Wednesday. The counties declared were Columbia, Franklin, Grant, Johnson, Lincoln, Logan, Lonoke, Ouachita, Pulaski, Scott, Union, and White.

Lost Cat and Dog Walking

One of our residents, Lily, found a cat:

This morning I found a scruffy looking cat in my backyard on Cliffwood Circle. The cat is solid black, short-haired & has a collar. The collar is frayed & the cats’ coat looks a little rough. He/she obviously belonged to someone, it was friendly & hungry. Is anyone missing their kitty? Or does anyone know of a neighbor who moved & may have lost their cat?

If you lost your cat or know who has, please leave a comment so Lily can get in touch with you.

Also, if you walk your dogs up on the hill, please be responsible and clean up after them if they relieve themselves along the way. Your neighbors thank you!

SHNA Block Party & Cookout

Scenic Hill Neighborhood Association Block Party & Cookout! September 12, 2009 from 11am – 2pm at the corner of West Scenic and Valley View. The menu is hot dogs, chips, desserts, soft drinks (if you would like to bring anything, it would be welcomed). Bring your lawn chairs.

For entertainment, anyone wanting to bring their own instruments, please do so.

There will be door prizes (must be present to win), and a Travel Award given to street with most attendance (West Scenic & Cliffwood will be divided).

National Night Out

Weather permitting, this Tuesday night is National Night Out. Bring your lawn chairs and munchies to 311 W. Scenic from 6pm – 8pm and enjoy hanging out with and getting to know your neighbors.
